Why are intersectional approaches to data important and how can institutions put them into practice? How can intersectional approaches to data enable us to address inequalities and centre the voices of those who are marginalised?

Data is increasingly driving all areas of contemporary life. Crucially, the ways data is collected and used often leads to those at greatest risk of marginalisation being hidden, excluded, or discriminated against. Intersectional approaches to data can address these issues, promoting equity across the data value chain and ensuring that data systems are inclusive.

Co-hosted by the Inclusive Data Charter (IDC), Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data, National Statistics Office of Colombia, Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre, the UK’s Office for National Statistics and Sightsavers, this event will launch the IDC’s knowledge products on Intersectional Approaches to Data Series. Through interactive dialogue, the event will explore best practices, key questions, and new recommendations to support practitioners to consider how they can address intersecting inequalities in their work. The session aims to stimulate open discussions across national statistical offices, civil society organisations and others sharing practical ways on how intersectional approaches can promote more inclusive and equitable outcomes, with opportunities for Q&A and audience participation.
